We discussed in out previous Post about Sitemaps and how to submit them. Till now you will be knowing that What are Sitemaps and their importance. In previous post we discussed How to submit sitemaps to Google. Today we will discuss how to submit sitemaps to Yahoo and Bing. Sitemap submission to Yahoo was previously done using Yahoo Site Explorer but nowYahoo completed algorithmic transition to Bing. Yahoo merged site explorer into Bing Webmaster Tools. Now submitting your blog at Bing will set it live at two search engines, i.e. both Bing and yahoo.

Submit Sitemaps to Bing

  • Log into Bing Webmaster using your hotmail or microsoft account
  • After logged in, you will see a dashboard. Click the button " Add Site".
  • Give your site address and then click Submit. Now you will be asked to verify if you are the true owner of the website or blog you submitted. You will be provided three standard methods. Choose the second option which is "Copy and paste a tag in your default webpage".
  • You will be given a short HTML code. Simply copy it and paste the code just below <head> inside your blogger template. To do this go to:
    • Blogger > Design > Edit HTML > Backup your template.
    • Search for <head> tag.
    • Just below it paste the code you got from Bing.
    • Save your template. You are all done.
  • Again go back to Bing webmaster page and click the "Verify" Button. If you pasted the code correctly then your sitemap will be successfully added to the list.
    • BING and YAHOO normally should take 3-5 days to start showing data for your newly submitted site. So be patient.

    After 3-5 days, you will be able to track organic traffic to your blogs via your webmaster account which is similar to Google Webmaster tools account.

    Ping Bing and Yahoo

    Paste the following links (replace blogsmasala.blogspot.com with your site link)in your browser address bar one at a time and hit enter. You will see a message "Thanks for submitting your sitemap." indicating that you have successfully pinged Bing.

    Posts less than 1500

    Posts more than 500 and less than 1000

    Posts more than 1500

    Ping the Yahoo

    You don't need to do this. Pinging bing will do the job. :)

    Check Your Links In Bing and Yahoo

    You can check your links by going to bing and yahoo and place the latest url of post and see if links are appearing. If not then following can be reasons.
    • You need to wait for at most 5 days after first submission of your Blog
    • You blog has no sufficient posts. Your blog must contain at least 15 posts
    If still you can't see the result then do the following.
      • Ping them again and wait for a day. If things did not work then try below step.
      • Remove your Site from Bing webmaster tools and resubmit it.
      • Ping them just after blog submission.
